Is Levonelle® One Step suitable for me?

Objections to Levonelle® One Step

It may be helpful to know that Levonelle® One Step does not work if you are already pregnant so if you take the tablet, you won't be terminating a pregnancy.

To be more specific, if a woman has already ovulated and the egg has been fertilised during or after intercourse, Levonelle® One Step will, in most cases, prevent that egg from attaching itself to the lining of the womb.

If for whatever reason, the tablet does not work and a woman does become pregnant, there is no evidence that Levonelle® One Step harms the foetus in any way.

Although Levonelle® One Step does not cause abortion, some people have religious or ethical concerns over preventing a pregnancy in this way, and therefore emergency contraception would not be a suitable option for them.

If you feel uncertain about taking Levonelle® One Step, speak to your healthcare professional or talk to a professional who shares your background and beliefs first.

If you would like to talk things through, you can find a number of Helplines which promise confidentiality, in Advice and Support. You do not have to give your name or say where you live.
