I have already taken Levonelle® One Step – what next?

What do I do about contraception now?

If you want advice on long-term methods of contraception, visit your healthcare professional or family planning clinic and they can help.

Re-starting the combined pill

  • Discard any missed pills, including the one for the day that you take Levonelle® One Step.
  • Re-start your pack the day after you take Levonelle® One Step and then continue to take your pill as usual.
  • During the first 7 or 9 days (depending on the type of pill) of re-starting the Pill, if you have sex, use condoms or a diaphragm/cap (with spermicide) or you won't be protected against pregnancy.
  • If these 7 or 9 days take you into a new packet, don't take your usual 7 day break between packs or placebo pills if taking an everyday pill - just carry straight on with the next pack.

Re-starting the progestogen only pill (mini-pill)

Re-start your pack the day after Levonelle® One Step and use condoms or a diaphragm/cap (with spermicide) for another 7 days.

Going on the Pill for the first time after Levonelle® One Step

You have to wait until you've had your first period after taking Levonelle® One Step before you can go on the Pill. See your healthcare professional or family planning clinic, and they will advise you on the types of pill available, and how to start taking them. Remember, Levonelle® One Step does not have any lasting contraceptive effect, so you will need to use a barrier method of contraception, (with spermicide) until your next period.
