I am under 16

If you're worried about being pregnant, you may feel very anxious about what to do next. Pharmacists are not allowed to sell Levonelle One Step® emergency contraception to under 16s, but it is available free to all women under medical supervision, from a doctor, family planning clinic, NHS Walk-in Centre or sexual health clinic.

If your own doctor doesn't provide contraceptive services, or you don't want to go to your own doctor, visit www.fpa.org.uk (Family Planning Association) for their telephone helpline numbers. They will be able to tell you where your nearest Young Persons' Clinic is and what the opening hours are. This service covers the whole of the UK.

Usually, you don't need an appointment if you're worried about being pregnant, but it's best to phone first if you can. If it's a weekend, and everything's closed, try:

  • Your own doctor's Out of Hours service
  • The Accident and Emergency department of your nearest large hospital
