STIs and STDs

These two terms refer to sexually transmitted infections and sexually transmitted diseases.  Anyone who has sex can get one - you don't have to have had a lot of different partners.

If you think you have an infection, you can go to your own doctor, any NHS genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic or to a special clinic such as a family planning clinic or sexual health clinic. The tests that you will be given are free throughout the UK and services are confidential. Some clinics have special services for people who have been sexually assaulted.
