Which contraceptive will suit me?

With all the different options available, you're sure to find a long-term method of birth control that suits you.

Contraceptives fall into three main types:

  • Barrier methods designed to stop sperm getting into the womb
  • Hormonal methods which temporarily alter the way your reproductive system works
  • Other, less sophisticated methods such as withdrawal, which are much more risky if you don't want to get pregnant

Find out more about these methods in this area of the site and if you're not happy with the method of contraception you are currently using, think about changing now.

Don't put it off. Being reluctant to use your normal method of contraception in the first place, is one of the main reasons why women need to get emergency contraception.
